Ms. Rosily

Ms.Rosily was a nursing student in Bangalore. She got frightened while staying at hostel. This incident disturbed her mind and the fear in her mind increased day by day. Gradually she was unable to concentrate in her studies and she started showing the symptoms of mental illness such as suicidal ideation, restlessness, fearfullness etc. Thus she stopped her studies in Bangalore and came back to her native place.

She has been staying in Mariasadanam since ten years. At the time of her admission, she had severe suicidal ideation. The intense fear of her mind motivated her to switch off her life and she attempted nine times to commit suicide. Meanwhile she could gain control over her mind with the help of care, love and treatment as part of the rehabilitation programmes in Mariasadanam. Music therapy, one of the most important tools of rehabilitation, helped her to came to know about the gifted talents within herself as an actor and as a singer. She performed in hundreds of stages. She acted as a nurse in one of the tele-fims 'Shantam' created by Mariasadanam Kalasamiti which fulfilled her dream. Such participations in different activities of Kalasamiti helped her to wipping out the suicidal thoughts from her mind and also to achieving an optimistic attitude towards life.

Ms. Sindhu

Ms.Sindhu was abandoned by her family members after the death of her mother and she was living alone at her home. She had been even financially cheated by her relatives. This mental harassement made her depressed and hopeless. She was withdrawn and starved for many months. During the admission, her condition was so pathetic that she could not recollect her identity itself.

She was brought to Mariasadanam before 4 years. She was in a depressed mood for the first six months. Later she responded positively to the treatment plan and started helping in kitchen work. Now she is the main cook and she makes delicious dishes for around 300 people daily with the support of others. She also proved her talent in acting and handled many roles in different tele-films and dramas. These activities totally changed her mind and now she is inspired with positive energies.

Mr. Chacko

As he was a tailor in Mumbai, he started showing the symptoms of mental illness such as delusion, suspiciousness, excessive talking etc. He belived that evil spirits disturb him even at the time of meals. Gradually, he refused to have food and kept himself locked in a room. His biological functions like sleeping and food intake became disturbed. He was brought back to his home where he became unmanegable. His relatives and friends admitted him in different hospitals and care centres where the result was zero. His condition became worst and he got admitted in Mariasadanam with the support of his neighbours. The rehabilitation activities along with proper pharmachological management supported positively to control his symptomatic behaviours.

Music therapy is one of the effective rehabilitation tools used in Mariasadanam. With the help of music therapy, his hidden talent of singing is re-discovered and he became a blessed singer in the Kalasamiti. He performed around 100 stages still now. It is proved recently that he is a good composer too. Along with this, he is acting in the Kalasamiti's dramas and do tailoring in free time. He is one of the living examples that mentally ill can maintain well with rehabilitation programmes based on love and care.

Mr. Jackson

Mr. Jackson was a student in Chembi Music College, Palakkadu. Eventhough the rhytms of music is a best medicine, somewhere he lost his control of mind. He was scared of interacting with others and unable to concentrate on his profession. Afterall he undergone treatment in many places, there was no improvement in his condition. Due to the growing financial burden, he had been ignored even by his siblings and other relatives. Later on, he was restricted physically by chain and he was not even knowing his own identity. He was brought to Mariasadanam in this condition. With the help of psycho-social interventions and medications, he could manage himself qiute well over here.

During one of the functions here, he willingly came forward to sing and this attempt rooted the beginning of Mariasadanam Kalasamiti, Orchestra and Creations. His knowledge and taste in music directed the Kalasamiti in a fruitfull way. He is a leading singer in the troupe and he masters both classical and film songs. He is an active member in the occupational unit and he helps in office work also.

Mr. Seenu

Mr. Seenu left his home at the age of ten and he was wandering in different places. These times, he worked with many people and all these people made him to work too hard. Some of them even tortured him physically so that he could not adjust with such situations. These circumstances compelled him to return to the street. Thus he started thinking of going back to his home, but he could not able to find out his native place. After his long journey in train, he reached in Kerala and through this he was brought to Mariasadanam by police.

Though language was a barrier, he started adjusting with the atmosphere over here. Later on it came to know that he is from Andhra and his parents are staying there. Unfortunately he is not able to recollct either his adreess or the way to home. In between he had been sent to Labour India open school for studying the language.

Right now he is good in writing, reading and speaking Malayalam. He acted in the drama St.Paul and appeared in some tele-films also. He wishes to act in movies. He is thankful to Mariasadanam for the tremendous changes in his life and providing better care and support to him.
